Isaac Ankrah, PhD

Dr. Isaac Ankrah is the Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Critical Minerals & Energy Transition (ACCET).

His work sits at the intersection of energy economics, critical minerals, green finance, digital transformation, and technology policy. He uses econometrics, data analytics, and applied policy research to generate evidence on how African economies can finance clean energy, govern mineral wealth responsibly, build resilient value chains, and convert transition opportunities into inclusive industrial growth.

He holds a Ph.D. in Technology Economics & Management and a Master’s in Economics with a Financial Engineering option from Xiamen University. His academic publications focus on renewable energy, energy transition pathways, climate policy, and sustainable development in emerging economies. Several of his works are used as learning materials under the Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnership (TEA-LP). He has also strengthened his energy and climate policy toolkit through the UNITAR–UN CC: Learn–GIZ course on Strengthening Climate Adaptation and Resilience. He is now a Senior Lecturer in Economics at Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU)

Beyond academia, he consults, write, and facilitate high-level policy and capacity-building workshops on green finance, sustainable industrialisation, China–Africa development dynamics, climate resilience, and critical minerals governance. He has supported green finance engagements in Ghana and Ethiopia and continue to work with policymakers, development partners, researchers, and private-sector actors on Africa’s clean energy and industrial transition.

He brings practical fluency in generative AI and digital tools, especially in research, teaching, policy communication, and institutional capacity building. This allows him to connect economic analysis with emerging technologies in ways that support evidence- based decision-making, academic innovation, and institutional transformation.

In 2022, he was recognized by the Institute of Certified Chartered Economists as one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s 30 Most Influential Young Economists.
