Dr. Bridget Chimbga is an ACCET Research Fellow from Zimbabwe. She is currently the Director of AI-RISE, a research institution dedicated to tracking AI policy, fostering dialogue on responsible technology and analysing the impacts of digitalisation across Africa.
Her work sits at the convergence of artificial intelligence, human wellbeing, and society. She is committed to demystifying AI, bridging the digital divide and establishing ethical frameworks that protect against algorithmic bias and data misuse. Her research interests span responsible AI and ethics, digital governance and the promotion of African-centric perspectives in global AI strategies.
Through her leadership at AI-RISE, she shapes policy conversations and advocates for the responsible adoption of emerging technologies across the continent. Her work also explores the intersection of AI, natural resource governance, and the sustainable energy transition, ensuring that Africa’s critical minerals sector benefits from ethical and responsible innovation.
Dr. Chimbga holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pretoria, specialising in the ethics of the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT). She also holds an MSc in Telecommunications from Anglia Ruskin University and a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering. Her contributions to the field have earned her international recognition. She was named one of the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2025 and an AI-2030 Women in AI Leader for 2025. Dr. Chimbga’s work continues to inspire and shape the discourse on ethical and responsible artificial intelligence, ensuring that Africa’s voice remains central to the global conversation on technology and society.
