Ann-Sharon Mukanganyama is a Zimbabwean researcher and policy analyst working at the intersection of energy, governance, economic justice, and African development. She holds an MSc in International Relations from the University of Zimbabwe and a BSc (Honors) in Political Science.
She currently works as a Research and Insights Analyst, focusing on the energy industry across both renewable and non-renewable energy, with an interest in the policy, governance, and development implications of Africa’s energy systems. Her broader research and professional experience span gender and economic justice, public policy, youth engagement, peacebuilding, and strategic research and communications.
Her research interests increasingly center on Africa’s critical minerals and energy transition, particularly resource governance, value addition, regional integration, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and the political economy of Africa’s natural resources. She is interested in how African countries can leverage their critical minerals and energy resources to move beyond raw-material exports, strengthen domestic and regional value chains, and advance inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
Through her work, Ann-Sharon seeks to contribute research and policy perspectives that support African ownership of its resources, stronger governance of the energy and minerals sectors, and a more equitable energy transition.
